A small community in Montana rallied together to save four horses that had fallen into a frigid, icy pond.

The four horses were on a farm when they walked onto an icy pond that was on the property. The ice wasn’t strong enough to hold all four animals and it wasn’t long before it cracked and sent them plunging into the freezing, deep water.

The South Kalispell Fire Department quickly responded to the scene, along with farm staff, neighbors, and animal control officers!

Everyone worked hard to get the horses from the water to safety, but it wasn’t easy given their size and the dangerous icy water they were trapped in.

The South Kalispell Fire Department shared on Facebook that they were eventually able to save all four horses. They wrote, “Through the cooperative efforts of fire department responders, FCSO animal control officers, Rebecca Farm staff and many neighbors, all 4 horses were successfully rescued from the pond and transported for veterinary care.”

In an interview with NBC Montana, Alexis Langlois, an owner of one of the horses, said: “It was an amazing day, the community really pulled together for this one. Neighbors, first responders, police, ranch employees.”

When all was said and done, each horse took around 30 minutes to rescue and spent some 3 hours in the icy water. Thankfully, they all ended up being ok thanks to the community’s quick actions to get them out of the pond.
